After the HOA Crushed His Grandmother’s Orchids, One Old Water Valve Divided the Entire Neighborhood

Chapter 1: The Invoice Among the Broken Orchids

The front loader came through the east wall while Paul Nelson was still inside.

One moment he was reaching beneath a bench for a tray of newly divided orchids. The next, the greenhouse frame shrieked above him, glass burst inward, and the yellow bucket of the machine shoved through a cloud of silver fragments.

Paul dropped flat.

A steel bench folded where his chest had been. Clay pots struck the concrete and split open. Damp bark, roots, and pieces of colored plant tags scattered across the aisle.

“Stop!” he shouted.

The machine kept moving.

Through the ruined wall, Paul saw the operator’s face behind dusty glass. The man looked frightened, but his hands remained on the controls. Someone outside pointed toward the rear section of the greenhouse.

The bucket pushed again.
