My Neighbor Turned Our Quiet Street Into His Private Parking Lot, So I Let the Rules Speak for Me

Chapter 1: The Eighth Yellow Slip Was Not an Accident

Sarah Campbell held the yellow slip between two fingers as if it were something damp she did not want to carry any farther.

“Eight,” she said.

Behind her, a silver crossover sat less than a foot from Matthew Lewis’s black mailbox. Its rear bumper nearly aligned with the little red flag. Across the street, bass thudded through Jeffrey Miller’s front windows hard enough to make the glass tremble.

Matthew looked at the slip instead of the car.

The top line was familiar: DELIVERY ATTEMPTED. ACCESS OBSTRUCTED.

The lower line was not.

Certified mail. Time-sensitive.

Sarah shifted the bundle against her hip. “I can’t pull close enough without stopping in the travel lane. I’ve told the route supervisor twice.”
