The HOA Mocked His Rusted Bicycle Until a Missing Reserve Check Put Everyone’s Character on Trial

Chapter 1: The Bicycle Beside the Clubhouse Nobody Respected

“Why is the bicycle kid handling reserve documents?”

Catherine Moore did not lower her voice.

The clubhouse lobby had gone quiet enough that Daniel Rivera could hear rainwater ticking from the hem of his jacket onto the tile. Through the glass doors behind him, his old bicycle leaned against the rack under a weak awning, its frame silvered with rain.

Daniel kept both hands around the stack of budget packets he had carried from the management office.

Catherine stood beside the conference-room entrance in a fitted navy blazer, one hand resting on a leather folder. Two homeowners waiting for the meeting glanced toward Daniel, then toward the bicycle outside.

“He’s staff,” Linda Carter said.

“Temporary staff,” Catherine corrected.

Daniel felt the word land exactly where she meant it to.
