The HOA Blocked My Moving Truck, Then Learned the Road at Their Gate Was Never Theirs to Control

Chapter 1: The Morning My New Home Stayed Behind the Gate

Paul Anderson stepped into the road before the moving truck had fully stopped.

The driver hit the brake hard enough that a stack of flattened boxes slid off the passenger seat. Through the windshield, Paul stood twenty feet ahead of us with one hand raised, his other resting on his hip as if the truck had wandered onto a runway.

Behind him, the black metal entrance gate to Maplewood Ridge was open.

My new house was less than half a mile beyond it.

I lowered the window.

“Is there a problem?”

Paul walked toward the cab. He was in his sixties, wearing khaki pants and a navy polo embroidered with the name of the homeowners association. A golf cart sat angled against the curb behind him.

“You can’t bring that truck in.”
