They Called Him a Trespasser at His Own Pond, Then Learned Why the HOA Needed His Land

Chapter 1: The Morning They Told Him the Pond Wasn’t His

“You need to leave the property, Mr. Martin.”

Richard Martin looked from Pamela Roberts to the pond behind her.

For a moment, he thought he had misheard.

His folding chair sat six feet from the water. His black thermos rested beside it. Three old fishing lures lay in the shallow tray of his tackle box, their paint chipped from decades of use. His rod was still in his right hand, the line floating motionless on the surface.

Pamela stood in the middle of his gravel path with two neighbors behind her.

“This is HOA property,” she said. “You’ve already received notices.”

Richard glanced toward the tree line.

“I received envelopes.”
