They Tried to Remove Him From the HOA Hearing Until His Old Property Notebook Changed Everything

Chapter 1: The Man They Put Behind the Folding Chairs

“You can’t sit there, Mr. Carter.”

Joseph had barely pulled the metal chair away from the long folding table when Brian Mitchell said it.

The clubhouse had been rearranged for the special hearing. Three board members sat beneath a blank projection screen, water bottles and binders lined neatly in front of them. The property manager had placed two rows of folding chairs behind a strip of blue painter’s tape for homeowners who wanted to observe.

Joseph looked at the empty chair in his hand.

“My property is the hearing.”

Brian glanced down at the agenda. His navy suit looked too formal for the room, especially beside the faded carpet and framed photographs of neighborhood holiday parties.

“You’re the homeowner involved,” he said. “You’re not counsel, and you’re not a board member. You’ll be called when it’s your turn.”

Joseph let go of the chair.
