The HOA Moved His Property Stakes Three Feet—Then the Survey Changed Their Entire Townhouse Expansion

Chapter 1: Three Feet Appeared Overnight Beside Kevin’s Fence

The orange survey stake had not been there Sunday night.

Kevin Lewis knew because he had spent twenty minutes along that fence line before dinner, cutting back honeysuckle that had begun reaching through the old wire. The new stake stood in bare soil now, bright enough to catch his eye from the kitchen window, and it was nowhere near where Kevin believed the property line belonged.

He carried his coffee outside without putting on a jacket.

Three measured paces separated the stake from the line he had lived beside for years.

Beyond it, the HOA construction site was already awake. A diesel engine idled behind the temporary barrier. Fresh earth rose in low ridges where the townhouse expansion was being graded, and a yellow machine sat near the edge of Kevin’s side parcel.

Kevin crouched beside the stake.

Its soil was loose.

Not weather-softened. Freshly broken.
