The Farm Association Fined Everyone Who Blocked His Lane—Until Their Own Trucks Needed Somewhere to Park

Chapter 1: Nine Orange Clamps Beside the Harvest Field

The first orange clamp was bright enough to see from halfway across Andrew Davis’s hayfield.

By the time Brandon Clark reached the gravel shoulder, there were nine of them.

Nine pickups and utility vehicles stood nose to tail beside Andrew’s entrance, their right-side tires resting beyond the painted edge line that ran along the shared farm lane. Each front wheel carried the same heavy orange immobilizer. Beyond them, families who had come for the farm association’s autumn gathering were drifting out from the equipment shed, paper cups still in their hands.

Nobody was leaving.

Brandon stopped beside his black pickup and stared at the clamp around the wheel.

“What is this?”

Andrew stood near the gatepost with his hands in the pockets of his work jacket.

He had expected shouting. Brandon’s quiet voice bothered him more.
