He Tore Down a Farmer’s Gate Over Six Inches, Then Learned Who Controlled the Only Road Out

Chapter 1: Six Inches Was Enough to Tear the Gate Down

The tractor chain snapped tight around Anthony Miller’s cedar gatepost while he was still twenty yards away.

He heard the metallic crack before he understood what he was seeing.

“David!”

Anthony broke into a run down the gravel turnout, boots sliding on loose stone. Beyond the fence, three black cattle lifted their heads from the grass. At the entrance, David Green sat on the association’s compact tractor with one hand on the hydraulic lever. A galvanized chain ran from the tractor hitch to the lower hinge post of Anthony’s livestock gate.

David looked over his shoulder.

“Stay clear.”

Anthony stopped because the rear tire was already turning.

The chain drew taut.
