They Bolted a Gate Across His Farm Road, Then Learned the Whole Development Needed His Permission

Chapter 1: The New Gate Across an Old Farm Road

Thomas Walker saw the black steel gate only after the feed truck had committed to the turn.

The driver hit the brakes hard enough to send a pale cloud of gravel rolling past the cab. Behind him, twelve tons of bagged mineral feed shifted against the pallets with a low wooden thump.

Thomas stood beside his pickup fifty yards down the lane and stared.

Yesterday, there had been two weathered cedar posts and an open stretch of gravel.

This morning, a double-leaf steel gate stretched from ditch to ditch.

A chain ran through the center. A new brass-colored padlock hung from it.

The feed-truck driver lowered his window.

“You expecting this?”
