My Neighbor Said the Snow Would Melt—Then the Survey Put Fourteen Inches of His Driveway on My Land

Chapter 1: The Snowbank That Kept Crossing the Fence

The snowbank was nearly level with the lower rail of the fence when Christopher Baker realized it had not gotten there by accident.

He stood at the side of his house with one boot sunk ankle-deep in powder, staring at a hard-packed ridge that ran from the back corner of the garage toward the gate. Fresh white snow had been thrown over older gray layers until the pile leaned against the wood.

Across the fence, Donald Green was shutting down his red snowblower.

Christopher watched the auger slow.

“Donald.”

Donald looked over, one gloved hand still on the handle.

“Can you stop throwing it over here?”

Donald glanced at the snowbank as if Christopher had pointed out a cloud.
