“You need to shut this down immediately.”

Cynthia Walker was still halfway across her front lawn when Karen Clark pointed at the folding table beside the sidewalk.

Ryan froze behind it with both hands around a clear plastic pitcher. The yellow lid sat crooked from where he had just refilled it. Three paper cups waited in a neat row. A hand-lettered sign leaned against the table leg.

LEMONADE — $1

Beside the pitcher stood a glass jar with a strip of masking tape across it.

BIKE FUND.

Karen pointed again.

“I mean it, Cynthia. This is not permitted.”
