The HOA Fined Edward for Watching the Mailboxes—Then His Delivery Truck Recorded What Happened After Midnight

Chapter 1: The Letter That Made No Sense

Edward Harris knew something was wrong before he finished reading the second paragraph.

The certified envelope had been wedged beneath his front door mat instead of left with the ordinary mail. Across the top of the page, beneath the management company’s letterhead, the HOA had denied his request to install a security camera aimed toward the neighborhood mailbox turnout.

He read the sentence twice.

Then he looked across the street.

The mailbox shelter sat less than a hundred yards away, a tidy brick structure with silver compartments on one side and an open counter for parcels on the other. Nothing about it looked dangerous. That was part of the problem.

Three packages had disappeared there in six weeks.

One had belonged to Edward.

The other two had belonged to neighbors.
