The Red Door Everyone Feared Was Hiding the One Thing Robert Could Not Lose

Chapter 1: The Red Door Nobody Could Stop Watching

The phone appeared above Robert Mitchell’s fence at 7:18 on a Tuesday morning.

Just the top half at first—a black rectangle held sideways, camera lens pointed into his yard. Then a hand rose beneath it, pale fingers gripping the case, and the phone tilted toward the weathered red door set into the stone wall behind Robert’s house.

Robert stopped with the hose running over his boot.

For two seconds, neither person moved.

Then Robert shut off the nozzle and crossed the lawn.

The phone vanished.

“Hey.”

A sneaker scraped concrete on the other side of the fence.
