They Tore Down His Farm Fence Over Two Inches—Then He Followed the Bills Nobody Else Had Checked

Chapter 1: The Two Inches Catherine Would Not Recheck

The steel tape snapped tight against Scott Hill’s new cedar post.

“Two inches,” Catherine Roberts said.

Scott stopped halfway through pulling off his work glove.

Two neighboring landowners stood near the gravel lane, close enough to hear. Catherine had parked her SUV beside the pasture entrance and walked straight to the corner post with a clipboard and tape measure, as though the matter had already been decided before Scott came down from the hay field.

“Two inches what?” he asked.

“Inside the association access setback.”

Catherine hooked the tape at the edge of the gravel maintenance lane and pointed to the mark against the cedar.

Scott looked from the number to the shallow ditch beyond the lane.
