The HOA Called the Drone Flights Routine Until One Fell Into My Family’s Pool

Chapter 1: The Twelfth Flight Fell Into the Pool

The drone hung above the pool like it had found the exact spot where it could make everyone uncomfortable.

Steven Harris opened the black spiral notebook on the patio table and turned past eleven dated entries to a clean line.

Above him, four rotors whined against the humid Florida afternoon.

He wrote one number.

“Steven,” Samantha said from beneath the covered patio, “the kids are getting out.”

He looked toward the shallow end. Both children had stopped playing. One was already climbing the steps, water running from a bright towel wrapped hurriedly around narrow shoulders. The other stared upward.

The drone shifted three feet to the left.

Its camera remained pointed down.
