The HOA Blamed the Neighbor Everyone Distrusted—Then the Broken Car Window Exposed Who Had Been Lying

Chapter 1: The Neighbor Paul Said Not to Trust

“You’re seriously giving him the keys?”

Paul Walker’s question stopped Justin Williams with his hand halfway through the open window of his sedan.

Across the clubhouse parking lot, Kevin Moore stood beside a battered pickup that looked as though it had not moved in weeks. His work boots were stained with dried mud. The reflective strip on his old utility vest had gone gray at the edges. Beyond him, Justin’s restored black sedan reflected the white clubhouse columns so cleanly that the passenger window looked almost invisible.

Justin withdrew his hand and looked at Paul.

“I’m not giving him the keys.”

“You’re asking him to watch a car worth more than his house looks right now.”

Justin’s jaw tightened.

Paul immediately raised one palm. “I’m not trying to be cruel.”
