The Association Fenced Off His Daughter’s Favorite Farm Corner—Then One Survey Exposed What Their Easement Never Allowed

Chapter 1: The Fence Was Already Around Emily’s Bench

Jack Anderson knew something was wrong before he shut off the truck.

Three men in orange vests stood on the narrow strip between his pasture fence and the gravel road. One steadied a roll of chain-link while another swung a gate into place.

Inside the new enclosure sat Emily’s cedar bench.

Jack left the engine running.

The bench had been there so long that one leg had sunk slightly into the soil. He had built it from leftover cedar boards when Emily was six, sanding the edges because she liked to climb onto the backrest to watch calves in the pasture.

Now somebody had fenced it in.

Jack stepped from the truck and pulled out his phone.

The nearest worker looked up. “You Jack?”
