They Chained His Farm Road for Unpaid Fees, Then Learned the Road Was Never Theirs

Chapter 1: The Chain Across Walker Farm Road

The chain was stretched across Paul Walker’s only truck exit before he finished his first cup of coffee.

He saw it from the cab of his gray Ford as he rolled down the gravel drive toward the county road: a thick galvanized chain pulled chest-high between the cedar gatepost on one side and a steel fence post on the other. A bright padlock hung at the center.

Paul stopped twenty feet short of it.

Beyond the chain stood Stephen Taylor.

Stephen wore clean work boots, pressed jeans, and the navy polo he favored whenever he was acting as president of the Walker Ridge Road Association. He held a clipboard under one arm. Two pickup trucks sat along the shared gravel road behind him, and two neighboring landowners stood near them, watching.

Paul switched off the engine.

The silence afterward felt deliberate.

He climbed out.
