She Locked Her Neighbor’s Truck During His Family Party, Then the HOA Revealed Who Had Been Lying

Chapter 1: The Truck Was Blocking Her Before Sunrise

At 6:12 on Monday morning, Jessica Lewis’s phone chimed with a reminder that read, Eli—first visit, severe dental anxiety, just as she stepped into her garage and saw that she could not leave it.

A black lifted pickup stood diagonally across the mouth of her driveway. One oversized rear tire rested beyond the faded white line she had painted along the concrete two summers earlier. The truck’s front end pointed toward the Adams house, but its long bed cut across Jessica’s exit like a gate.

She stared at it for three seconds, still holding her travel mug.

Then the office phone began ringing through the Bluetooth speaker in her car.

Jessica set the mug on the hood and called Anna.

“Tell me you’re already driving,” Anna said.

“I’m in the garage.”

There was a pause.
