The HOA Demanded $7,800 Until One Boundary Line Exposed What Everyone Had Ignored

Chapter 1: The Final Notice Inside the Black Mailbox

The envelope caught on the lip of the mailbox as Stephen Harris pulled it free.

It was heavier than the grocery circulars beneath it, bright white with a red border and the words FINAL NOTICE visible through the plastic window. His name was printed correctly. So was the address.

Maple Ridge Lane.

Stephen stood beside the black curbside mailbox while a delivery truck rolled past the entrance to the subdivision. The driver lifted two fingers from the wheel. Stephen did not respond.

He opened the envelope with his thumbnail.

AMOUNT DUE: $7,800.

Below the figure, smaller type warned that the Maple Ridge Homeowners Association had referred the account for lien review. Payment was required within ten business days to avoid additional legal and collection costs.

Stephen read the first paragraph twice.
