The HOA Manager Treated an Older Resident Like a Trespasser—Then One Missing Report Changed the Promotion Decision

Chapter 1: The Wallet Behind the Management Desk

“That’s mine.”

The older man pointed across the polished stone counter at a worn brown wallet lying beside Edward Nelson’s keyboard.

Edward did not touch it.

“Sir, I need you to step away from the resident elevator.”

Rachel Walker stopped halfway through the lobby doors.

The man standing at the management desk wore faded work pants, a wrinkled gray shirt, and an old canvas jacket despite the warm morning. A small overnight bag rested beside his shoes. His hair looked as if he had slept somewhere without a mirror.

Two residents waiting for packages had gone quiet.

The elevator behind him gave a soft electronic chime, but its doors stayed locked.
