They Called Her Deed Worthless Until the HOA Learned Its Only Entrance Crossed Her Land

Chapter 1: The Tow Cable Crossed a Line No One Could See

The tow cable snapped tight beneath Laura Adams’s pickup with a metallic crack that made three people on the sidewalk flinch.

“Stop,” Laura said.

The tow-truck driver did not stop.

Her rear tires shifted six inches through the gravel, carving twin grooves beside the yellow-painted edge of the neighborhood entrance. A loose stone jumped against the steel drainage grate. The truck’s suspension dipped, then lurched as the winch pulled again.

Laura stepped forward.

The driver raised one palm without looking at her. “Ma’am, don’t come near the equipment.”

“That truck is on my property.”

This time he looked at her, but only for a second. His eyes moved past her toward Robert Nelson.
