The HOA Ordered Him to Move His Barn—Then the Survey Put Their Playground on His Land

Chapter 1: The Tape Measure Stopped Beside His Barn

Donald Hill saw the yellow tape before he saw the notice.

It ran across the grass from the old split-rail fence toward the red barn, bright against the dull green like someone had drawn a line through his property without asking.

Jeffrey Martin stood beside the fence holding the tape housing in one hand and a clipboard in the other. He had already hooked the metal end around a fence post.

Donald came down from the barn doorway.

“What are you measuring?”

Jeffrey looked up. “Setback.”

“That fence?”

“The property line.”
