They Tried to Shut Down His Farm Workshop, Then Their Own Complaint Exposed the Rental Next Door

Chapter 1: The Morning They Called His Workshop a Business

The county deputy stepped out of his cruiser just as James Walker pushed a cedar board through the table saw.

James killed the switch.

The blade wound down with a thin metallic whine, leaving the workshop suddenly quiet except for the cattle bawling beyond the back pasture and gravel crunching beneath another pair of shoes.

Katherine Harris came through the open side of the machinery shed carrying a folder against her burgundy jacket.

She did not say good morning.

“James, you need to stop work.”

He looked at the board still resting against the fence of the saw. A clean strip of pale cedar had curled away from it.

“Stop what part?”
