They Closed His Farm Road for Breaking Their Rules, Then He Found Who Actually Owned the Crossing

Chapter 1: The Morning They Blocked His Cattle Trailer

Benjamin Carter saw the orange marker before he saw Kathleen Hall’s truck.

It stood in the gravel like a warning, a waist-high fiberglass stake planted where the turnout widened beside his cattle gate. Ten yards beyond it, Kathleen’s pickup sat sideways across the broadest part of the entrance.

Benjamin eased off the accelerator.

Behind him, twelve steers shifted inside the livestock trailer. Their weight rolled against the suspension, metal rattling sharply in the quiet morning. He had been hauling cattle through that entrance for more than twenty years.

Kathleen stepped from beside her truck holding a clipboard.

Benjamin lowered his window.

“You’ll have to turn around,” she said.

He looked past her toward the gravel lane.
