He Blocked the Farm Lane With His Work Trailer, Then Dared the Wrong Neighbor to Fight

Chapter 1: The Trailer Waiting in Donald’s Headlights

Donald Mitchell turned off the county road and hit the brakes so hard the feed bucket behind his seat struck the floor.

For a second, he thought he had taken the wrong driveway.

His headlights stopped against a wall of white metal.

An enclosed work trailer sat across the shared farm lane, angled enough that its rear wheels nearly touched one ditch while its tongue reached toward the other. Reflective strips flashed red and silver in Donald’s beams. A muddy company pickup was parked beyond it near Brian Clark’s place, but there was nobody outside.

Donald lowered his window.

Cold air came in carrying the smell of wet grass and diesel. The lane was silent except for the idling truck.

He had used this road for more than thirty years. His father had used it before him. It ran along the edge of Brian’s parcel for roughly two hundred yards before bending toward Donald’s cattle lot, hay ground, and house.

Tonight, it looked like somebody had decided it was a parking pad.
