He Charmed the HOA Board Upstairs, Then One Spilled Coffee Exposed Who He Was Downstairs

Chapter 1: The Coffee Cup Nobody Important Was Supposed to Notice

The paper cup rolled between Justin Harris’s shoes just as Brian Nelson stepped through the rooftop doors.

For half a second, Justin looked down.

Coffee spread in a dark fan across the pale tile. A screwdriver had fallen from the maintenance tray beside it. Larry Hall, the building’s older porter, was already bending to retrieve both.

Justin had been backing through the service doorway while turning to greet one of the board members. His elbow had caught Larry’s tray. He knew that much.

“Sorry about that,” Justin said.

But he was already extending his hand toward Brian.

“Brian. Good to see you.”

Brian’s eyes dropped briefly toward Larry.
