She Locked Jonathan Inside His Own Home Until He Followed Every Dollar the HOA Had Collected

Chapter 1: The Orange Lock Across Jonathan’s Door

Jonathan Campbell knew someone had trapped him inside his house when the storm door moved two inches and struck metal.

He pushed again. The glass shuddered in its frame, but the door would not open farther.

Beyond it, fixed across the outside handle and porch rail, was a bright-orange steel restraint. It looked like equipment meant for a construction site, not a front porch. A rectangular warning tag hung from its center.

PAYMENT HOLD — $900 DUE FRIDAY.

Jonathan stared through the glass at Sharon Baker, who stood at the bottom of his porch steps with a clipboard tucked against her beige jacket. Beside her, a maintenance worker was packing a cordless drill into a canvas bag.

“You installed that while I was inside?”

Sharon checked one of the boxes on her form. “You were served notice last week.”

“A notice is not permission to barricade my door.”
