She Let the HOA President Keep Talking While His Excavator Tore Through Her Greenhouse

Chapter 1: The Bucket Crossed a Line No One Could See

The excavator bucket came through the greenhouse wall before Sharon Carter understood that Scott Roberts intended to use it.

Glass burst inward with a flat, violent crack. One aluminum support folded. A hanging tray swung loose, struck another tray, and dropped three orchids onto the gravel floor.

Sharon froze with one hand still on the side-yard gate.

“Stop.”

The engine swallowed the word.

The yellow machine sat half on the grass and half on the narrow strip between her fence and greenhouse, its tracks pressing dark grooves into soil she had weeded the previous afternoon. Scott was in the cab. Through the glass, she saw his dark polo shirt, his left hand on a control, his mouth moving as if he were explaining something to someone who had already agreed.

The bucket pulled back.

“Scott!”
