The HOA Changed His Gate Code Without Permission—Then the Old Access Agreement Changed Everything

Chapter 1: The Code That Stopped Working

Thomas Anderson entered the same four digits he had used for years.

The keypad chirped once.

A red light came on.

He stared at it, then entered the code again more slowly, pressing each rubber button with the flat of his thumb.

Red again.

Beyond the black metal gate, his own side driveway curved toward the detached garage behind his house. Thomas could see the mower he had left near the shed the evening before. Nothing on the other side had changed.

Only the fact that he could no longer get there.

The control cabinet beside the gate stood open. A man in a gray work shirt was packing a screwdriver and a small programmer into a hard plastic case.
