Andrew Green arrived carrying a red folder and stopped at the edge of my driveway like he had already decided where my property ended.

“I need ten minutes,” he said.

Behind him, a white SUV idled at the curb. The HOA management representative stayed inside with a clipboard on her lap. Andrew wore a navy jacket despite the mild Saturday morning, and the folder under his arm looked too bright against it.

“What for?”

He glanced past me toward the workshop.

“That.”

He had never called it the workshop before. Usually, in emails, it was “the detached structure.”

I followed his eyes.
