They Towed My Car From My Deeded Space—Then the HOA’s Hidden Parking Money Surfaced

Chapter 1: They Called Me a Guest Outside My Own Home

The tow hook descended toward my front wheel while twelve of my neighbors watched from the sidewalk.

Its steel edge stopped inches above the tire. The driver leaned out his open window and looked past me toward Daniel Campbell, waiting for the final signal.

Daniel stood beside his silver SUV with a clipboard tucked beneath one arm. His jacket was open, his tie loosened, and the expression on his face suggested that the inconvenience belonged entirely to him.

“Go ahead,” he told the driver.

I raised my phone and took another photograph.

The tow truck. My car. Daniel’s SUV. The faded white number beneath his rear axle.

The parking court was brighter than usual because the event hall beyond the east wall had switched on its exterior lights. People in formal clothes were crossing the sidewalk in small groups, some carrying gift bags, others following a valet who waved them toward the guest spaces inside our community.

Daniel’s vehicle occupied mine.
