The first thing people noticed was the rifle case.

Not Paul Harris.

Not the careful way he stepped out of his pickup and closed the door without a sound.

The case.

It was long, scratched, and made of wood darkened by decades of use. Among rows of black polymer cases and modern equipment bags, it looked like something that belonged in a museum.

A few shooters glanced at it and smiled.

One laughed.

Paul heard them. He heard everything.
