The Birdhouse Next Door Looked Harmless Until One Night Changed the Whole Neighborhood

Chapter 1: The Birdhouse Angela Said Was Too Attractive

“The problem is, it’s too attractive.”

Thomas Mitchell looked from Angela Robinson’s pointing finger to the birdhouse, then back to Angela.

Rain ticked softly against the hood of her bright yellow jacket. Behind her, at the edge of the shared property line, two nearby homeowners had slowed their Saturday errands just enough to pretend they were not listening.

Thomas rested one hand on the cedar post.

“Too attractive to what?”

Angela stared at him as if the question itself were part of the problem.

“To birds, Thomas.”

He waited.
