The HOA Called His Greenhouse an Eyesore, Then Learned Who Controlled the Water Beneath Their Lawns

Chapter 1: The Machine Came Through Betty’s Glass Roof

The loader bucket came through the glass roof while Mark Allen was still inside.

For one impossible second, he saw every pane above him tremble in its frame. Then the steel teeth punched through, and the whole east side of the greenhouse erupted in white shards.

Mark threw both arms over his head.

“Stop!”

The engine swallowed his voice.

A hanging basket dropped beside him. A bench tipped. Seed trays slid across wet concrete and burst open under his boots, scattering black potting soil and pale roots. The loader reversed with a hydraulic whine, dragging a section of aluminum framing outward. Glass crackled down in sheets.

Mark stumbled toward the center aisle.

“Stop the machine!”
