They Cut Down His Father’s Dock, Then the Old Property Line Changed Everything

Chapter 1: The Dock Fell Before Richard Understood Why

The chainsaw was already biting through the last piling when Richard Martin reached the bank.

“Stop!”

The operator looked up, but the saw did not.

Richard slid the final few feet down the muddy slope. His boots struck the narrow strip of shoreline just as the weathered piling gave a deep wooden crack.

For one suspended second, the dock his father had built forty-three years earlier seemed to remain exactly where it had always been.

Then the outer corner dropped.

Boards twisted. Rusted nails screamed free. The railing tipped sideways, and half the dock folded into the channel with a tremendous splash.

Samuel Martin stood ten feet away.
