My Neighbor Blocked My Driveway With a Dumpster—Then the HOA Learned His Permit Never Covered My Property

Chapter 1: The Dumpster Was Waiting Outside His Garage

Joseph Allen pressed the garage-door button and heard the familiar rattle of rollers overhead.

Then the morning light opened onto a wall of dark green steel.

He stopped with one hand still on the button.

A construction dumpster sat across the mouth of his driveway, close enough that its rear corner seemed almost aligned with the left edge of the garage. Beyond it, a narrow strip of concrete remained visible toward the curb, but from where Joseph stood behind his SUV, it looked more like an escape route for a bicycle than a path for a vehicle.

For several seconds he simply stared.

The house next door had been under renovation for months. Steven Walker had replaced windows, opened walls, torn out a deck, and generated enough construction noise that Joseph had learned to distinguish a circular saw from a reciprocating saw without trying.

The dumpster was new.

Joseph walked down the driveway.
