They Filled the Shared Farm Lane With Equipment—Then He Documented Every Day They Blocked His Cattle Route

Chapter 1: The Lane Was Narrower Every Night

Timothy Clark knew the livestock trailer would not make the bend before his truck reached it.

A blue plastic feed tub sat where his right trailer tire normally tracked. Two wooden pallets leaned against a rusted cultivator farther ahead, and an empty mineral feeder had been dragged close enough to the gravel that the lane seemed to pinch inward.

He stopped with the engine running.

The lane had never been generous. It came off the county road, crossed a shallow drainage pipe, then bent between Timothy’s pasture fence and Gregory Moore’s frontage before widening briefly into a gravel pull-off. That wider section was what let a truck towing livestock swing through without clipping a fence post.

For most of Timothy’s sixty-one years, nobody had talked much about the pull-off. They used it.

Lately, Gregory had been filling it.

Timothy lowered his window and studied the turn. The trailer behind him was empty, which helped. Twelve cattle would have shifted their weight every time he changed direction.

A pickup came up behind him and stopped.
