His Neighbor Kept Blocking the Farm Gate—Then One Tow Changed What Their Fathers Had Left Unsaid

Chapter 1: The Morning the Gate Cost Him More Than Time

The cattle were loaded, the diesel was running, and Benjamin Hill’s blue pickup sat sideways across Kevin Hall’s only way out.

Kevin stopped beside the open farm gate and looked at his phone.

6:42.

The livestock hauler had backed the aluminum trailer down the lane before sunrise. Twenty-six steers stood packed inside, their weight shifting against the partitions with dull metallic thumps. They were supposed to be on the county road already. Kevin had a sale window to make, and the auction yard was nearly an hour away.

Benjamin’s lifted pickup occupied the strip of gravel between Kevin’s gateposts and the pavement as though somebody had dropped it there deliberately. Its front wheels were on Kevin’s entrance apron. The rear end angled toward the road. A small equipment trailer sat behind it with a compact trenching attachment chained down.

There was enough space for a car to squeeze around.

There was not enough space for a cattle rig.

Kevin could see Benjamin fifty yards down the road beside an excavator, talking with two workers near a drainage ditch.
