They Kept Sending Freight Trucks Down His Private Farm Road—Until He Found Who Had Changed the Map

Chapter 1: The Truck That Should Never Have Been There

James Carter knew the sound of every machine that belonged on his farm.

The old tractor rattled at idle. The feed truck from town had a loose heat shield that buzzed on the hill. His own diesel pickup coughed twice on cold mornings before settling into a steady growl.

The sound outside the storage barn at 7:15 that morning belonged to none of them.

Air brakes hissed.

James stopped with one hand on the barn door.

Then came the low churn of a heavy diesel engine and the crunch of gravel under more weight than the road had ever been built to carry.

He stepped outside.

A refrigerated eighteen-wheeler was coming toward him.
