The Engineer Behind the Ivy Fence Recorded Every Order They Tried to Deny

Chapter 1: The Hook That Came Over the Ivy

The grappling hook struck the top of Raymond Hernandez’s fence with a sound like a hammer hitting a coffin lid.

It tore through the ivy, scraped over the wooden cap, and dropped six inches into his property before the rope snapped tight.

Raymond was already moving.

He crossed the narrow strip of concrete between the equipment shed and the gate, caught the rope in one gloved hand, and stopped three feet behind the yellow boundary line painted across the paving stones. Beyond the slats, red and blue light pulsed over parked cars, trimmed hedges, and the pale faces of neighbors watching from windows.

“Take it back,” Raymond said.

A young officer appeared through the viewing gap beside the gate. Tyler Walker had one hand resting near his holster and the other wrapped around the radio clipped to his vest.

“Open the gate.”

“You came for a welfare check. You saw me. You spoke to me. The check is complete.”
