The HOA Marked His Workshop for Removal—Then Learned Who Actually Owned the Road Beneath Their Trucks

Chapter 1: The Orange Line Across His Gravel

The orange paint appeared six feet from Robert Miller’s workshop door before anyone asked him a question.

He heard the hiss of the spray can through the open bay, sharp against the steady hum of his dust collector. By the time he stepped outside, a contractor in a fluorescent vest had already drawn a bright line across the pale gravel where Robert backed his truck in every morning.

Robert looked at the line.

Then at the man holding the can.

“Who told you to put that there?”

The contractor lowered his arm and glanced toward the service lane.

Christine Wright was walking toward them with a rolled site plan under one arm. Kevin Carter followed with a clipboard and the careful expression of a man who had come prepared to explain something after it had already been decided.

Christine stopped just short of the orange stripe.
