The HOA Towed His Restored Mustang—Then He Checked Who Actually Owned the Road Beneath It

Chapter 1: The Tow Truck Came Before Sunrise

The chain snapped tight beneath the Mustang just as Mark Anderson reached the curb.

“Hold it.”

The tow-truck driver looked toward him but kept one hand on the control lever. Amber lights swept across the row of townhouses, flashing against garage doors and bedroom windows. Mark’s restored 1968 Mustang sat beneath its gray cover in the painted guest bay, its front end already lifted several inches.

Nicholas Baker stood beside the truck in a windbreaker, holding a clipboard.

“Mark, don’t interfere with the driver.”

“I’m asking him not to move the car.”

“It’s being removed under the parking rules.”

Mark looked at the chain disappearing beneath the front suspension. He had spent four years rebuilding that car. He knew every bracket beneath it.
