My Neighbor Put His Equipment Shed Seven Feet Into My Pasture—So I Let the Old Boundary Speak

Chapter 1: The Green Shed Beyond the Old Fence

Frank Campbell stopped the tractor so hard that the hay rake behind him snapped against its hitch.

There was a building in his pasture.

Not near the pasture. Not beside it.

In it.

A dark-green steel equipment shed stood beyond the weathered livestock fence that separated his cattle ground from Anthony King’s adjoining horse property. The building had not been there when Frank checked the south pasture Saturday afternoon. Now, on Tuesday morning, it sat on a fresh bed of packed gravel, its metal siding catching the sun between two old cedars.

Frank left the tractor idling and walked toward it.

The cattle had already given the new structure a wide berth. Their tracks curved around the disturbed ground, and several clumps of grass had been scraped away by equipment tires. Beyond the fence, Anthony’s pickup was parked beside a flatbed trailer.

Frank did not call out.
