She Painted a Parking Line Across His Driveway, but the Survey Exposed Everyone’s Mistake

Chapter 1: The White Line Waiting Across His Driveway

Jason Harris stopped with his front tire inches from a stripe of wet white paint.

The line crossed the full width of his driveway, thick as the markings in a commercial parking lot and bright against the gray concrete. A plastic paint tray sat on the grass near the curb. The roller resting inside it still glistened.

Jason kept his foot on the brake.

Karen Wilson stood beside his mailbox with her arms folded. She wore gardening gloves and the expression of someone waiting for a late delivery rather than a man returning home to find his property altered.

He lowered the driver’s window.

“What is that?”

“The new parking limit.”

Her answer came too quickly.
