The HOA Fined Him Over a Video Nobody Could Produce, So He Asked One Question They Couldn’t Answer

Chapter 1: They Kept Mentioning a Video Benjamin Had Never Been Allowed to See

The photograph attached to Benjamin Martin’s violation notice showed an empty strip of grass.

No landscaping crew. No mower. No broken property. No person at all.

Yet the sentence printed beneath it said that video evidence corroborated allegations that Benjamin had threatened contractors, obstructed authorized maintenance access, and damaged association property.

Benjamin read the page twice before he turned it over.

There was nothing on the back.

The packet had been pushed halfway beneath his front door sometime before eight Monday morning. Four sheets, stapled at the corner, bearing the management company’s logo and the date of the incident from the previous Thursday.

He stood in the entryway in his socks, coffee cooling in his hand.

The first page imposed a fine.
